Programs

The primary goals of SOMCAN programs are to work with individuals and organizations in the SoMa neighborhood to:

  • Build and sustain resident leadership and participation in the civic life of their neighborhood and San Francisco as a whole through educational workshops and structured resident leadership development programs.
  • Connect service providers to understand the larger policy landscape and to begin to transform the relationships between funders, service providers and constituents to advocate for the needs of the community.

SOMCAN has four main program areas with specific areas of focus:

  • Low Income Family Program - Providing referrals and direct service to families of SoMa
  • Community Organizing - Building the leadership of youth and parents and supporting an organized SoMa community that takes collective action to achieve its goals
  • Healthy Neighborhoods - Transcending the fight against gentrification with the goal of achieving long-term sustainability for low-income and working-class SoMa residents
  • Community Convener - Ensuring that youth and families in SoMa are receiving the quality services they need
