Reclaiming Our Space (ROSe)

The ROSe program connects art to urban design, land use and community planning from the lens of grassroots organizing. This is done to empower and increase the civic engagement of the immigrant stakeholders and Filipino residents around urban planning activities in the SOMA Pilipinas, SF's Filipino Cultural Heritage District.

ROSe has engaged over 500 SOMA residents whose ideas have shaped how City departments incorporate community planning and community design guidelines from seniors, adults, transitional age youth, children, youth, and their families on SFMTA, Dept. of Planning & Public Works projects.

Mel Vera Cruz’s mixed media stencil mural will feature 35 s/heroes that have impacted the Filipino community as organizers, veterans, seniors, mothers, workers, farmers, professionals, and residents.
